What is happening
Our homes are being demolished. We are organising to stop it.
In September 2023, the Victorian Government announced plans to demolish all 44 public housing towers across inner Melbourne by 2051. These towers are home to 10,000 people — communities from over 40 countries who have lived here for generations. A parliamentary inquiry found the government failed to provide evidence to justify demolition over retrofitting. Relocations have already begun.

![Victorian Socialist Candidates Pledge Support to Inkerman Residents
The public housing residents of Inkerman St, St Kilda, have secured the support of the Victorian Socialists in their struggle to save their homes from ALP-led displacement and gentrification.
At a residents' meeting on the estate on Monday, three Victorian Socialists candidates signed firm pledges of support for the residents' fight to save the 150+ public housing units across the estate.
The candidates declared in writing that they are "opposed to the displacement and demolition of 150 Inkerman Street, St Kilda", and "will support the residents' fight in any way [they] can, on the streets, in the community, in parliament and in the media."
The candidates are Clayton Doueihi, Prahran candidate for the Victorian Legislative Assembly, and Catherine Holder and April Worsley, South Metro candidates for the Victorian Legislative Council.
Two Greens candidates signed similar pledges in September. Local Liberal MP Rachel Westaway and Port Phillip Mayor Alex Makin have offered verbal support, broadening the residents' array of political allies in the face of an intransigent, isolated and flailing ALP.](https://44fu.org/wp-content/plugins/instagram-feed/img/placeholder.png)
