44 Flats United
The Victorian Government is trying to demolish 44 public housing flats - displacing over 10,000 residents. We're uniting residents to stop it.
What is happening
Our homes are being demolished. We are organising to stop it.
In September 2023, the Victorian Government announced plans to demolish all 44 public housing towers across inner Melbourne by 2051. These towers are home to 10,000 people — communities from over 40 countries who have lived here for generations. A parliamentary inquiry found the government failed to provide evidence to justify demolition over retrofitting. Relocations have already begun.
If you are a resident who has received a relocation letter, who is worried about where you will go, who feels like no one is listening — we hear you. Many of us have felt the same.
44 Flats United is residents standing together — estate by estate, tower by tower, language by language. Whether you are a resident, a former resident, or someone who believes public housing matters, there is a place for you here.
